Journal: Early Childhood Education 

CALL FOR PAPERS!

Early Childhood Education, a peer-reviewed journal published by the ECEC of the ATA. At a time when there are many pressures on teachers, and fewer supports or consultants in early childhood education, we believe that it is important that trained early childhood professionals articulate clear visions of appropriate educational practices for young children. We need to lead the field rather than be pressured to engage in practices that are contrary to our professional beliefs and values. Writing for the Journal can help provide this leadership. We truly need your voices.

The deadline for submission for the 2025 issue of the ECE journal is January 15, 2025.


There is an opportunity for release time paid by the council for members interested in completing an article for the journal.

Guidelines for Contributors

a) Aims and Scopes

Early Childhood Education is published:
  • to promote the professional development of educators in improving practice in early childhood education and
  • to stimulate thinking, to explore new ideas and to offer various points of view.
We publish articles from educators and educational researchers. Classroom teachers especially are invited to consider writing about topics that interest them. Submissions are requested that will stimulate personal reflection, theoretical consideration, research and practical application. Our readers appreciate articles that present differing perspectives; innovative classroom and school practices; recent literature reviews; trends and issues; research findings; descriptions, reviews or evaluations of instructional and curricular methods, programs or materials; and child-related humor.

Our Latest ECEC Journal

The annual Early Childhood Education Journal is a peer based journal. The journal seeks to stimulate thinking, to explore new ideas and to offer various points of view. It serves to promote the convictions of the ECEC about childhood education.

Submissions and Contributions

We are accepting submissions on an on-going basis. 
There is an opportunity to provide release time for members interested in completing an article for the journal.
Please review the guidelines for contributors prior to submission.

Articles should be sent as an email attachment as Word documents (either doc or docx) to [email protected].

Manuscripts may be up to 3500 words. References to literature made in the text of the submission must appear in a reference list at the end of the article. Literature not cited in the text but providing background material or suggestions for further reading should be similarly listed. Style should be consistent with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th Edition).

Photographs, line drawings, figures and tables should be sent as separate JPG files. A caption and photo credit should accompany each photograph. Authors are to obtain releases for use of photographs prior to submitting the manuscript via e-mail. Signed permissions need to be included in the submission, forms can be found below.

In order to enable blind review, manuscripts must be anonymized. No author information should be included in the manuscript. All author information (including full name, e-mail and mailing address, and biographical information) must be included in a separate document.

It is expected that authors will not submit articles to more than one publisher at a time.
